Find the authority responsible for your route
Start with the destination’s government immigration or foreign-affairs website. For Germany, follow the Federal Foreign Office to the responsible German mission. For the UK, start with GOV.UK’s Student visa guidance. For Australia, use the Home Affairs Student visa page and its linked application guidance.
A university page, adviser’s summary or forum discussion can help you form questions, but it is not interchangeable with the instructions issued by the responsible authority. Follow any delegated provider link from the official page rather than trusting its appearance or a search advert.
Check the conditions before copying the list
Look for the intended audience: citizenship, residence, application location, type of study and stage of the process. Two people going to the same country may need to follow different instructions. Record any condition you have not confirmed as a question, not as an assumed answer.
Read nearby notes and linked instructions. A page heading or search snippet can omit an exception or point to a different application stage. If you cannot establish that a requirement applies to you, use the authority’s contact or clarification route.
Keep the original link and a review date
Alongside a preparation task, record the original URL, publisher, page title and the date you read it. If you save a copy for your records, keep its connection to the live source. A saved PDF or screenshot can become outdated even when its filename says ‘latest’.
Before acting, reopen the source and check whether the instructions or linked checklist changed. A source-review date means the page was checked on that date; it is not a promise that a requirement will remain unchanged until you apply.
Resolve conflicting instructions carefully
First compare scope and timing. One page may describe a general route while another gives local application instructions; another may refer to a later stage. Avoid combining every document mentioned online into one supposedly universal checklist.
If the conflict remains, preserve both links and write down the precise question for the responsible authority. Do not treat an AI answer, translated summary or example checklist as authority to override official instructions. Keep original wording available when a translation leaves an important term unclear.
